Indoor LED Screen: Types, Specs & How to Pick the Right One
Choosing an indoor LED screen isn't complicated once you know which specs actually matter. The problem is most people focus on the wrong things — brand name, cabinet finish, price per square meter — and end up with a screen that looks off in their space.
Here's what to focus on instead.
Pixel pitch is the most important decision
Pixel pitch determines how sharp the screen looks at your actual viewing distance. The smaller the number, the sharper the image — and the higher the price.
A simple rule that works:
Pixel pitch (mm) × 1,000 = minimum viewing distance (mm)
So P2.5 → viewers should stand at least 2.5 meters away. P4 → 4 meters minimum.

Buying finer pitch than your viewing distance requires is wasted money. Buying coarser means visible pixels from your audience's seats.
Brightness: less than you think
Indoor screens don't need outdoor-level brightness. Most spaces work fine with:
- Meeting rooms: ~600 nits
- Retail / malls: 800–1,200 nits
More brightness = more power consumption and more eye strain for people sitting close. Match it to your room lighting, not the maximum spec on the datasheet.
SMD vs COB — does it matter?
For most commercial installations, SMD is fine. It's reliable, widely available, and cost-effective.
COB packages LEDs directly onto the board as a single unit — better brightness (1,000–1,500 nits), better impact resistance, easier to clean. Worth the premium for broadcast studios, high-traffic venues, and anywhere viewers stand within 1–2 meters.
If viewers are 3+ meters away in a normal office or retail environment, SMD covers the job.
Refresh rate: only matters on camera
For general display use, 1,920Hz is sufficient. If your screen will appear in live streams, broadcast footage, or professional photography — you need 3,840Hz or above. Below that, cameras pick up a flicker band that's invisible to the naked eye but obvious in video.
Front-access maintenance is non-negotiable for wall mounts
If the screen goes against a solid wall, there's no space behind it for a technician. Front-serviceable cabinets let you swap a faulty module in minutes from the front face — no scaffolding, no dismounting.
Screens like the MA640 and MA600 series use a front-lock system where one person can replace a module in under five minutes. For a screen running 24/7 in a public space, this matters more than most buyers realize before their first service call.

Four things get you an accurate price:
- Wall size (width × height)
- Minimum viewing distance
- Room lighting conditions
- Whether front-access maintenance is required
